Before choosing a home
Start with anything that could change your decision about the property:
- Check school catchments in EdMap and speak with the school about enrolment.
- Try the commute and school or care run at the right time of day.
- Look up council flood information for the property and ask your insurer about cover for the address.
- Check internet availability, mobile reception and any access needs.
- Take unresolved property questions to the relevant adviser before you commit.
Keep the answers with your inspection notes so you can see what’s sorted and what you’re still waiting on.
Schools, care and work
Contact the school once you know roughly when you’re moving. Give them the proposed address, year level and start date, and ask which documents you can prepare ahead of time.
Arrange before- and after-school care separately. If there’s a waiting list, work out who can help with pickup in the meantime.
If you work from home, allow for a gap in the internet connection. Have a mobile option or another place to work ready for the first few days. Keep work devices, chargers and important documents with you during the move.
Internet and utilities
Contact your internet provider early and use nbn’s moving-home guidance to prepare. Confirm the full address, whether an appointment is needed and what equipment should stay at the property.
Book electricity and any other services for the handover date. Keep confirmation numbers and provider contact details together.
Pack your router and cables where you can find them. Once connected, test the internet in the room you’ll work from as well as beside the router.
Moving-day access
Tell the removalist about steps, driveway access, gate widths and the distance from the truck to the door. In a unit or complex, check the rules for parking, lifts and move-in bookings.
Confirm when and where you’ll collect keys and remotes. Leave some room in the schedule for delayed access or wet weather.
- Keep medicines, identification, chargers and a change of clothes with you.
- Pack bedding, towels, basic kitchen items and cleaning supplies for the first night.
- Label boxes by room and mark anything you’ll need straight away.
- Arrange somewhere safe for children and pets while doors and gates are open.
- Save the removalist’s and property contact’s numbers on your phone.
At handover
Take photos before the furniture goes in, note meter readings and count the keys and remotes. Ask how unfamiliar gates, garage doors and fixed equipment work.
If you’re renting, complete the RTA entry condition report and keep a copy with your photos. Follow the RTA’s current return deadline for your tenancy.
Record existing damage and report problems through the agreed channel. Find the main service controls and make sure the household knows who to call for an urgent property problem.
Your first week here
Start with a few basics: a grocery shop, the school or work route, bin collection arrangements and any appointments you need. Treetops on Classic Way and Ambarella on Santa Maria Court are places to start for food shopping.
Update your address with work, school, your bank, insurer, healthcare providers and other services. Use Transport and Main Roads for licence address changes or the requirements for moving from interstate.
Then make a bit of time to enjoy being here. Take a picnic to Lake View Park or let the kids try the playground at Deodar. The boxes can wait for an hour.

What matters most on moving day?
Confirm keys and access, keep essentials with you and photograph the property before unpacking. If renting, complete the entry condition report and follow the RTA’s return deadline.
