Choose a park
The lakes are a big part of Burleigh Waters, but the public parks are the easiest places to enjoy them. Lake View Park on Jabiru Avenue has a playground and picnic tables beside Burleigh Lake. Deodar, on Omao Avenue, has more to keep the kids busy.
If you’re after a longer walk or a bigger playground visit, nearby Frascott Park is worth a look. For the headland tracks and ocean views, head over to Burleigh Heads.
Lake View Park
Jabiru Avenue, Burleigh Waters. Lake View Park sits beside Burleigh Lake, with a playground, basketball practice area, drinking fountain, picnic shelter and tables.
It’s a straightforward spot for a picnic while the kids play. Bring a rug if you’d rather sit on the grass or the tables are taken.
Public toilets aren’t listed on the council page, so keep that in mind if you’re planning to stay a while.
Deodar Park
2 Omao Avenue, Burleigh Waters. Deodar Park has slides, swings and climbing equipment, plus a basketball court and a fenced BMX pump track for confident older kids. Shade sails cover part of the playground, and there are picnic tables and a drinking fountain.
There’s a bit more choice here if you’re bringing children of different ages. The pump track gives older kids something to do alongside the playground.
There’s also a designated off-leash grassed area. Follow the signs for its boundaries and keep dogs out of the playground.
Council lists disability access along the concrete paths beside the playground. For access to a particular piece of equipment, ask council before you go.
Nearby: Frascott Park
Over in Varsity Lakes, Frascott Park has two playgrounds, a walking and riding loop, fitness equipment, a sports field and a basketball court. There are also two fenced off-leash dog areas.
The main carpark entrance is at 72 Mattocks Road, with another approach from Yodelay Street. Toilets, accessible toilets and accessible parking make this a useful option for a longer visit. Check the carpark hours if you’re heading over in the evening.
Walking beside the lakes
Lake View Park is a good place to start for a walk beside Burleigh Lake. You can’t assume there’s a public path all the way around each lake, though: some waterfront land is private, and paths don’t always join up. Stick to the public paths and head back the way you came where they finish.
If you’d prefer a loop, Frascott Park has a walking and riding path around the park. For a coastal walk, try the tracks at Burleigh Head National Park.
Looking to swim, paddle or launch a boat? Check the rules for the particular lake first; access to a waterside park doesn’t necessarily include access to the water.
Dogs, shade & facilities
Deodar and Frascott have designated off-leash areas. At Lake View Park, dogs need to be on a lead unless signs say otherwise. Dogs aren’t allowed in children’s playgrounds.
Bring water and sun protection. The playground at Deodar has some shade sails, but they don’t cover the whole park.
For a park with a particular facility, such as a barbecue or accessible toilet, the council’s Park Finder lets you search by suburb and what’s available.
Burleigh Head National Park
For headland walks, Burleigh Head National Park is nearby in Burleigh Heads. It’s a different way to spend a morning from a picnic beside the lakes, with tracks around and over the headland.
Check the park alerts before heading out, as tracks can close. Dogs aren’t permitted in the national park.
